I was configuring a WordPress blog for a client so that she could access it remotely and post from within Microsoft Office Word 2007. I configured everything but got the following error when trying to register the blog:
Word cannot register your account

I decided to try and test the blog on Ecto for OS X, and its error was a bit more descriptive:
XML-RPC services are disabled on this blog. An admin user can enable them at http://dentalservicescr.com/blog/wp-admin/options-writing.php

After accessing the Writing settings in WordPress, I found the option that allows remote blog posting in WordPress:
Enable the WordPress, Movable Type, MetaWeblog and Blogger XML-RPC publishing protocols.
After making those changes, Word allowed me to configure the blog:

Thanks for the tip,was struggling to publish my article from microsoft word,thanks

Hi,
I was struggling to fix same kind of issue. Here is my scenario:
I created a new site using the Blog template , everything works fine when accessing the site in a browser. However, when trying to use Word 2007 as the blog program to post to the site, it doesn’t work. Here’re the steps I tried:
1. Click the “Launch blog program to post” on the site home page, which launches Word 2007
2. On the New SharePoint Blog Account message box, it correctly shows the site URL.
3. Click OK and it displays another message box saying “When Word sends information to the blog service provider; it may be possible for other people to see the information, and ask you to confirm to continue.
4. Click Yes to continue and a new message box comes up saying “Word cannot register your account. The provider where you are trying to publish is unavailable. Contact your provider for assistance.”
Sorry, for such a long description, I hope you would help me fixing this issue.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Jay

@Jay:
Did you try this step on your admin blog?:
“Enable the WordPress, Movable Type, MetaWeblog and Blogger XML-RPC publishing protocols.”
Please let me know how it turns out.

Thanks for your reply..!
I am unable to navigate to the step you suggested on the SharePoint server.
Could you please give me navigation steps to open this setting on the Sharepoint server.
Thanks
Jay

@Jay:
These steps are for fixing the problems on WordPress, so I don’t think they apply to your particular scenario.
What blogging system are you using?

@Jay:
Sorry this fix applies to WordPress and Word 2007. Try looking for a similar setting in your sharepoint blog.

Hey I know this post is kinda old but I was hoping you could help. I have “Enable the WordPress, Movable Type, MetaWeblog and Blogger XML-RPC publishing protocols.” Enabled yet I still receive the message.
Thanks for your help

Hi Ryan,
Not sure what the problem might be.
This probably off-topic, but may I recommend using LiveWriter for blogging on Windows? It’s the best blogging utility, and it works like a charm with WordPress – highly recommended!

Let me know how it goes.
Cheers!

sorry for double posting, but I fixed my own problem, seems I have a bad install, as some files on the site just need to be deleted and re-uploaded (xmlrpc.php). After I uploaded the file I tried it again in word and it worked, wired really, thats the 6th file that needed to be uploaded and then it works

@Ryan:
No worries
Check your FTP program upload settings, it’s probably set to resume the files on upload; hence, the changes you upload do not take effect until the file is deleted.
Cheers!
